Cheryl Gillan MP officiated at the opening of new courts at Chalfont St Giles Tennis Club on 6th June. She has attended the club in the past on the occasion of the opening of the Junior practice court. The Club has spent over £35,000 on new specialist synthetic carpet playing surfaces on its three courts.
Besides being good to play on, the new UK manufactured Matchplay2 surface, has the additional advantages of good drainage and relatively low maintenance costs. It is also kinder to the joints of older players and less slippery in frosty conditions.
Founded over 50 years ago Chalfont St Giles Tennis Club has a great reputation for welcoming new members of all standards. Although there are several other clubs competing for players within a few miles, Chalfont St Giles has always attracted a steady membership, with its friendly atmosphere and low subscriptions. The Club is grateful to the support it has received over the years from the Village’s Country Show, the profits from which go to local charities.
An important part of the Club’s mission statement has been the encouragement of youngsters to play tennis. Included in a very nominal annual subscription, members of its Junior section receive coaching from its LTA accredited club coach Mark Scholfield.
